Deep black current in both color and flavor introduces this bright Syrah. Amazingly refined for such youth. A serious wine giving up aromas of blueberries and violets as well as hints of assorted meaty nuances, blackberry and currants. A plethora of short supple tannins soft as a baby‰۪s bottom. Blessed with a silky current of black raspberry and cassis flavors that glide along and flow to a full-bodied, seamless wine that has terrific fruit intensity and a blockbuster finish.
95 Points Robert Parker-The 2009 Syrah Eddie’s Patch Hoppe-Kelly Vineyard bursts onto the palate with an exciting array of dark red cherries, rose petals, spices, leather and licorice. The use of 33% whole clusters gives the wine a high-toned register in the bouquet that is especially appealing. Sweet, silky tannins frame the exceptional finish in this pliant, highly expressive Syrah. This is a fabulous showing. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024.
95 Points Robert Parker-The 2012 Syrah Eddie’s Patch (a 410-case, 100% Syrah aged 18 months in 40% new French oak hogsheads) comes from 16-year-old Syrah vines. Aromas of bouquet garni, roasted meats, blackberries and blackcurrants soar from the glass of this blue/black-colored Syrah. Full-bodied with olive tapenade notes, sweet tannin and an expansive, multilayered mouthfeel, this fabulous Syrah should be drunk over the next 12-15+ years.
94 Points Antonio Galloni-Bright, dark red. Wild, northern Rhone-like aromas of raspberry, cherry, charred meat, lavender, black pepper, wild herbs and spices. Fine-grained and sweet, with lovely primary red berry fruit complicated by herbs, spices, dried flowers and a balsamic quality. Very sexy wine with a broad but weightless finish featuring a fine dusting of tannins, a late note of black olive and lovely lingering perfume. This will be better in a couple years but it's already a fascinating drink.
94-96 points, Robert Parker- The 2012 Syrah River Rock Vineyards comes all from The Rocks region of Walla Walla and was fermented with 100% whole clusters. Giving up massive minerality, with ground herbs, gunpowder, smoked earth, olive and assorted dark fruits, this beauty hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a layered, elegant feel and notable tannin that comes through on the finish. As with the Rock Garden Syrah, it should have 10 to 15 years of prime drinking.
