Rating- 100 Points Robert Parker, Wine Advocate
"One of two perfect wines ended my mini-tasting of the offerings from Lokoya in 2013. The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain from the Keyes Vineyard is an amazing wine. Thick purple in color with a stunning nose of lead pencil shavings, blackcurrants, mulberries and blackberries, the wine has a steely structure, yet enormous concentration, skyscraper-like mouth texture, and builds incrementally to a stunning finish of close to a minute. The purity, the richness, the overall equilibrium are unreal, but then this is Lokoya. Drink it over the next 30+ years
One of the superstars of the Kendall-Jackson portfolio, the Lokoya wines all come from four microclimates in Napa Valley, are made by the brilliant Chris Carpenter, and range in size (production-wise) from a low of 340 cases for the Diamond Mountain to 1,750 for the Mt. Veeder. All of these wines are 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from some of the best parcels of vines available, aged in 100% new oak and bottled unfiltered. They have been on an absolute qualitative tear for a number of years and seem to go from strength to strength. We’re dealing with possibly the greatest vintage I have tasted in 37 years of visits to Napa Valley – 2013. So, I suppose these reviews are not that unusual.." RP
Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare - Special Blend with Brora - Limited Edition
Crafted by Johnnie Walker's Master Distiller Jim Beveridge, Blue Label Ghost and Rare is comprised of "ghost whiskeys" from three silent distilleries, Cambus, Pittyvaich and the Highland Single Malt, Brora, as well as from existing distilleries Royal Lochnagar, Clynelish, Glenkinchie, Glenlossie and Cameronbridge. It's "a smooth scotch, with the fruity sweetness of pineapple, rich notes of hazelnut and dark chocolate, and a subtle smoky finish,".
From the Distiller:
“Over the years of crafting fine Scotch whiskies, I've had the remarkable privilege of working with some of the rarest spirits ever to come out of Scotland. I'm lucky that we have stocks from more than 30 distilleries from every region of Scotland from which to choose the perfect casks to craft each blend. It gives us a richness of character, flavour and age that no other scotch can match.
“Whiskies from these ghost distilleries are becoming increasingly rare. From our library of irreplaceable casks that we keep exclusively for Johnnie Walker Blue Label, I've chosen a few uniquely full-bodied expressions of these precious malts and grains to let people explore, in a new way, the extraordinary richness found in our pinnacle whisky.”
THINK A CENTURY AHEAD.
Each decanter is the life achievement of generations of cellar masters.
First created in 1874, LOUIS XIII Cognac is an exquisite blend of up to 1,200 grapes eaux-de-vie sourced 100% from Grande Champagne, the finest cru of the Cognac region and matured slowly inside oak casks known as "Tierçons". Each individually numbered crystal decanter is a replica of the original 16th century metal flask, discovered on the site of the battle of Jarnac. The embodiment of an ancestral savoir-faire, LOUIS XIII is a rare artifact that is the life achievement of generations of Cellar Masters.
A dense celebration of floral notes and candied fruits with hints of spices emerge first.
Notes of jasmine twirled with nuances of passion fruit, themselves flirting with ginger and nutmeg. Touches of roses and iris are dancing with elements of fig, prunes, in turn being sustained harmoniously by layers of sandalwood and honey.
Four generations of cellar master have succeeded each other to produce these intense aromas that persist more than an hour on the palate.
For over a century, LOUIS XIII has been synonymous with refinement and craftsmanship. Created in 1874, it was exhibited at the Paris Universal Exhibition of 1900 and soon established itself as a symbol of French taste and sophistication. In the years that followed, it captivated the royal courts of Europe and became a permanent feature at the most prestigious hotels. Distilled from grapes grown in the chalky soil of Grande Champagne, the finest cru of the Cognac region. It matures slowly inside age-old oak casks, watched over by four generations of Cellar Masters. Over the decades, a mysterious communion between the air, the wood and the eaux-de-vie culminates in a magical firework of flavors and aromas.
