Foxen "Block 8" Pinot Noir, Bien Nacido Vineyard 2017 750 ML
Sourced from this famed site in the Santa Maria Valley, the ‘Block 8’ was used in 3 and 4 year old oak barrels before bottling. Wonderfully salty terroir immediately creates its impact on the nose alongside ripe strawberry and wintergreen tones that march in union. The palate is seamless and silky smooth. Ripe red fruit flavors collide with minerals and salty undertones, with exceedingly good length. Juicy and downright delicious to savor in its youth this beautiful wine will cellar well for the next fifteen years. Drink 2020-2033

The 2017 Pinot Noir Bien Nacido Vineyard Block 8 saw the same upbringing but comes from a larger block. Its slightly lighter ruby/plum color gives way to a more savory, medium to full-bodied effort that offers classic notes of dried cherries, forest floor, and earthy, loamy soil notes. It too is beautifully balanced and layered, and it a terrific wine. Drink it anytime over the coming decade.

Pale ruby color, silky texture and bursting with cherry and raspberry fruit; juicy, rich and charming with a fresh, bracing acid structure; lively and long with fine balance and good length.

An interesting and compelling woodsy characteristic frames this wine in the glass. Include aromas of black raspberry, fresh thyme and blueberries, and you have a very captivating Pinot Noir coming from the famed Bien Nacido Vineyard. The mouthfeel is supple, with velvety tannins and notes of fresh bing cherries, luscious red fruits, soft bitter herbs and saline. The wine rests in new French oak for 16 months, with 44% being new. 1194 cases produced.

Foxen's 2017 Pinot Noir Bien Nacido Vineyard Block 8 is laced with the essence of sweet spice, star anise, blood orange and dried rose petal. In the glass, the 2017 is exotic, perfumed and full of character. The ripeness of the year is evident, and yet the 2017 remains silky, medium in body and absolutely impeccable in its balance. Oh yeah, it is delicious, too.

Cherry sauce, clove, star anise and hickory-roasted game aromas show on the nose of this block-designated bottling from a historic vineyard. The palate is smooth and intriguing, with flavors of red plum, red currant, thyme and spicy cardamom touches.

Like the bottling from adjacent block 43, this wine carries the imprint of sea breezes and strawberry. It’s earthy and more grounded than its counterpart, with a scent of strawberry fruit leather and tar, a fine wisp of smoke and fruit that’s supported by vanilla oak flavors.
92 points, Patrick J. Comiskey, Wine & Spirits (Apr 2021)
An interesting smoky nuance is present on the more deeply pitched aromas of both red and dark berries, plum and pretty spice nuances. The very round, plush and rich medium-bodied flavors coat the palate with dry extract that also serves to buffer the dusty, serious and moderately firm finale that flashes notably better depth. Lovely as the only nit is a hint of warmth.
