91 Points Robert Parker- The outstanding 2012 Chardonnay Sonoma Coast was made from the Old Wente clone, with malolactic fermentation completely blocked, and only 25% new French oak used. Made in a Chablis-like style, it possesses lots of citrus and green apple notes, medium to full body, and wonderful freshness, delineation, acidity and intensity. Those who complain that California Chardonnays are too buttery or oaky will love what Auteur has accomplished with this cuv̩e. Drink it over the next 4-5 years.
94 Points Wine Advocate - Very Bordeaux-like (no doubt due to the lower alcohol profile), it offers up notes of red and black currants, cedarwood, spice box, vanillin, licorice, underbrush and unsmoked cigar tobacco. The wine reveals fine-grained tannins and beautiful density and richness. Compared to the 2009, which is a Medoc-like blend, the 2010 is more of a right bank St.-Emilion-styled wine.
Rating 93 points -Robert Parker, Wine Advocate
"From bottle a solid 93. Surprisingly lush and charming for a young Montelena, the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate has a deep ruby/purple color, with earthy, black cherry and blackcurrants. The wine has very ripe tannins, and is medium to full-bodied with outstanding purity and balance. Most Montelena estate Cabernets have traditionally required patience, but this one is set for drinking now and over the next 20 years."-RP Jan 2015
91 points Wine Enthusiast-Tart with acidity but lush with fruit, this is a lovely Chardonnay to drink with shellfish dishes. Honeyed notes accompany flavors of tropical fruit, Meyer lemon and lime. Oak lends touches of vanilla and a creaminess that finishes clean.
